Lifelong nature lovers, outdoor enthusiasts and fellow bird bander, Aaron Bourque and Deb Eccleston capture the natural environment all around the Quiet Corner in their beautiful photographs. Free admission.

 

 

Nature Sketchbook Journaling

Saturday, June 2nd

9 a.m. to noon

You’ll spend time at the Bafflin Sanctuary, 218 Day Rd. in Pomfret, sketching and painting nature using pencil, pen and watercolor. Roxanne Steed will teach basic drawing and quick intuitive watercolor techniques.

Fee: $10 CAS members; $20 non-members. Register at 860-928-4948 and for list of materials to bring.

 

 

Wednesday Noon Walks

June 6th through August 29th at noon

Join us for fresh air, exercise, good company and naturalist lessons along the way. Seniors and parents with babes in backpacks welcome. Meet at the Center, 218 Day Rd. in Pomfret. Free to CAS members; $3 non-members.

 

 

Bird Walks/Breeding Bird Surveys

7 a.m.

We will observe as many nesting bird species as possible in two hours. Data we collect will go into the new Bird Atlas for the state. Meet at the Center, 218 Day Rd. in Pomfret. Fee: $5 CAS members; $10 non-members.

 

Whip-poor-will Walk I

Friday, June 22nd

8:45 p.m.

Join Andy as he finds calling whip-poor-wills. We will visit the Robbins preserve in Thompson which has nesting whip-poor-wills. We’ll also attempt to call in Owls. Meet at the Center, 218 Day Rd. in Pomfret and carpool from there. Bring a small flashlight or headlamp. Please register at 860-928-4948. Fee: $10 CAS members; $20 non-members.

Join Andy as he finds calling whip-poor-wills. We will visit the Bull Hill Forest Preserve in Thompson/Woodstock which has nesting whip-poor-wills. We’ll also attempt to call in Owls. Bull Hill Bird Watch/Hike

Tuesday, June 26th

8 a.m.

Join Andy in exploring this Wyndham Land Trust preserve in Thompson. We’ll look for birds and hike out to the fabulous scenic vista. Meet at the Center, 218 Day Rd. in Pomfret. Fee: $5 CAS members; $10 non-members.

Trail Wood Bird Walk

Thursday, June 28th

8 a.m.

Join Andy as he finds various nesting birds at our Teale sanctuary in Hampton. Hooded warblers, chestnut-sided warblers, indigo buntings, and blue-winged warblers should be found. Meet in the parking lot at 93 Kenyon Rd.

Fee: $5 CAS members; $10 non-members.
