ACT Presents MYRIAD: Dancefest 2019 on April 5 and 6


Willimantic CT — EASTCONN’s Arts at the Capitol Theater (ACT) magnet high school will present MYRIAD: DanceFest 2019 on Fri., April 5, and Sat., April 6, 2019, at 7 p.m., on the Capitol Theater’s main stage, 896 Main St., Willimantic. This family-friendly, annual dance showcase is open to the public.

Under the direction of Tiana Mancuso, the program includes faculty works by Tiana Mancuso and Melissa Basch. DanceFest is a collaboration among students and faculty from ACT’s Dance, Audio/Visual, Lighting Design and Costume departments.

MYRIAD will premiere six original choreographic works that delve into the many facets of diversity in society. The concert acknowledges the beauty of individuality and addresses issues such as female empowerment, stereotypes, the stigma facing members of the LGBTQ community and the gap between socioeconomic classes.

ACT students performing in MYRIAD include seniors Yasmine Aumaree, Windham; Deysha Cardona, Windham and Juan Rodriguez, Windham. Juniors include Lia Casedei, Windham; Tiani Gardner, Norwich; India Harper, Norwich and Madison Nelson, Lebanon. Sophomores include Alexa Chapman, Marlborough; Lea Duval, Plainfield; Arina Hagist, Stafford and Sara Ramos, Putnam.

Tickets are $5 for ACT students and military, $8 for seniors and students and $10 for adults. Tickets may be reserved in advance by calling the Capitol Theater’s Main Office at 860-465-5636. The Capitol Theater Box Office is also open one hour before show time for walk-up ticket sales (cash and checks only, please).
