EASTCONN Celebrates Class of 2026 at Adult Education Graduation Ceremony
More than 68 adult learners earn diplomas, GEDs, and industry credentials; state legislators and community partners join the celebration
HAMPTON, Conn. EASTCONN, one of Connecticut’s six Regional Educational Service Centers, honored its Adult Education Class of 2026 at a graduation ceremony held June 10 at Parish Hill High School. More than 68 adult learners completed their high school education this year through one of three free pathways — the Credit Diploma Program, the National External Diploma Program, or the GED — and 26 individuals earned nationally recognized industry certifications.
“You are not just crossing a stage tonight,” Kristin Hempel, EASTCONN’s Director of Adult and Community Programs, told the graduates. “You are holding a door open… You are the proof. Dreams do not have expiration dates. You just demonstrated that.”
Graduates Jessica Perez and Audra Eldredge, both GED Program completers, shared their own journeys with the audience. “To my fellow graduates: dream big, work hard, and never, never stop believing in yourself,” said Perez. Eldredge encouraged others considering the program, saying, “People at EASTCONN really want to see you succeed, and will work with you through any hardships you face.”
The evening also included the induction of new members into the National Adult Education Honor Society, with certificates of achievement sent by U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney; the recognition of new COABE Student Ambassadors; and an Alumni Spotlight.
Special guests included EASTCONN Executive Director Eric Protulis; State Representatives Anne Dauphinais (44th District) and Doug Dubitsky (47th District), who presented graduates with a legislative letter of congratulations; and Brian Cardello of Lowe’s, who accepted this year’s “Friend of Adult Education” award. The award recognized a Lowe’s Foundation grant that allowed EASTCONN to run three sessions of nationally recognized NCCER training in the building trades.
